How this site makes money, how we choose what to write, and what our guides are and are not.

How we make money

Only through card referral links. Many card issuers let a cardholder refer friends, and give the cardholder a bonus, usually points or miles, when someone they referred is approved. Some "Apply" buttons on our Best Travel Credit Cards page use our household's own referral links. If you are approved through one, we may get that bonus.

That is all. The site carries no advertising, no sponsored content and no affiliate network links, and no bank, card issuer, airline or hotel program pays us to list a card or to write about it.

Referral links

  • They are marked where they appear. A referral button carries a "Referral link" label, and the page explains them before the first one.
  • You can always skip them. Next to every referral button is a link to the same card on the bank's own site.
  • The offer can differ. A bank may show a different welcome offer through a referral link than on its public page, higher or lower. Compare the two before you apply.
  • They do not decide what we list. Most cards on the page have no referral link, and a card with one is described the same way as a card without.
  • Guides and blog posts carry none. Articles link to banks' own pages and to the sources they cite.

The private planner also shows the household's referral links on some "Apply" buttons, for the household members who use it.

Independence

Slow Travel Retirement is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any bank, card issuer, airline or hotel loyalty program. Card names, program names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the products we write about.

How we research

  • Every fact has a source. Each guide lists the pages it relies on and the date each was read, and quotes the issuer's own wording where it matters.
  • Issuer pages come first. Where a bank or program publishes a rule, we cite it. Where a rule is known only from reported approvals and denials, such as Chase's 5/24, we say it is community-reported.
  • Offers change. Welcome offers, fees and transfer rates move often, sometimes overnight. Every offer we show carries the date it was checked. Always confirm on the issuer's page before you apply or transfer points.

Not financial advice

Our guides and the planner explain how card rules, points and transfer partners work. They are general information, not financial, credit, tax or legal advice, and we are not a lender, broker or financial adviser. Applying for credit can affect your credit, and the right choice depends on your own situation. You decide what to apply for.
